The Dauntless Club, established in Essex, Connecticut, in 1906, was named after the historic racing yacht Dauntless. It was founded by former members of the Hartford Yacht Club, which had burned down in 1917.
History of the club
Named after a famous yacht: The club takes its name from the wooden schooner Dauntless, built in 1866. Owned by prominent yachtsmen, including Caldwell Hart Colt, the vessel was a famous contender in transatlantic races and America's Cup challenges.
