The sale included furnishings from a stylish apartment in San Francisco designed and decorated by Valerian Rybar and Jean-Francois Daigre. There are several colour photographs of room settings from this apartment and the first 57 lots in the auction came from this commission.
Valerian Stux Rybar (or Stux-Rybar; 17 June 1919 – 9 June 1990) was an American interior designer, called the "world's most expensive decorator" in 1972, and known for his opulent and extravagant taste.
