The plot follows James Bond as he goes undercover as Sir Hilary Bray to infiltrate Ernst Stavro Blofeld's mountain-top lair in the Swiss Alps to stop his latest biological warfare scheme. The novel also features Bond's developing relationship with Contessa Teresa "Tracy" di Vicenzo, the daughter of a crime boss.
