Rosalyn Drexler (born in 1926) is a novelist, Obie Award-winning playwright, and Emmy Award-winning screenwriter, and former professional wrestler. Although she has had success in the above fields--she remains best known for her pop-art paintings receiving renewed critical attention with a career retrospective exhibition in 2018. While touring as a professional wrestler Drexler wrestled under the character of "Rosa Carlo, the Mexican Spitfire." Her experience tour wrestling as Rosa Carlo later formed the basis of her 1972 critically acclaimed novel To Smithereens. The novel was the basis of the 1980 film Below the Belt. Andy Warhol made a series of silkscreen paintings based on a photograph of Drexler as Rosa Carlo.
