Lytton's Strachey's humourous but biting tale of sexual liberation and discovery, with illustrations by Erte. Ermyntrude and Esmeralda is comprised of a series of letters passed between two young ladies, one from the country and one from the city. The entertainment was originally written to amuse Strachey's liberated Bloomsbury circle and is heavy with private jokes, elements of autobiography and knowing cynicism.
