The first edition of this final collection of Vita Sackville West's gardening columns, in the original dust wrapper. With eight photographic plates. This fascinating horticultural work contains a number of articles written by Vita Sackville-West for The Observer, and is divided by month. The work is credited as being both a practical guide, whilst maintaining a romantic and somewhat poetic tone. In 1930, Sackville-West moved to Sissinghurst Castle in Kent, a property which had previously been owned by Vita's relatives. She, along with her diplomat husband Sir Harold Nicolson spent many years restoring the gardens on the estate. After a six year break from writing in order to restore the grounds, Sackville-West began writing once more in order to help fund her gardens, including a regular column for The Observer entitled 'In Your Garden'. Vita Sackville-West was an English poet, novelist and horticulturalist, as well as a prolific letter writer and diarist. She is also known as the protagonist of 'Orlando', written by her friend and lover Virginia Woolf.
