Don Blanding (1894-1957) gained popularity as a poet by publishing daily poem-advertisements in the Honolulu Star Bulletin for two years in the 1920s, before transitioning to mainstream publications. He illustrated his own work, as well as designing tableware for Vernon Kilns.
