When the Hanoi-born photographer/antiquarian Roger Prigent wanted to reduce the inventory and scale back his New York City operation named Malmaison to have a by-appointment-only business, he put this treasures on the auction block. Some he had paid top dollar for at celebrated auctions, others he had paid almost nothing for at various sources. But all formed a fabulous mix of stylish classicism, desirous despite the high ticket price. In this sale, there was a mix of 18th and 19th century French, Swedish, Italian, and German with 20th century pieces by Maison Jansen, Bagues, Arbus, Elsie De Wolfe, Karl Springer, and T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings. Altogether this forms an invaluable reference for all who appreciate fine decorative classical furnishings.
