The American Bar first opened at The Savoy, London in 1893. Harry Craddock, the world's most famous bartender and inventor of the famous White Lady Cocktail, presided over the bar.
Craddock, at the very suggestion of a special occasion would devise a brand new cocktail to mark the event, a custom which The Savoy continue to this day under the direction of the head barman, Peter Dorelli, himself now a veteran of 25 years in The American Bar.
Dorelli would later retire in 2003 at age 63.
