A commemorative volume on The Carlyle and those who have filled its rooms. The New York hotel opened its doors in 1930 and since then has hosted the cream of Manhattan society, including JFK, Marilyn Monroe, George Gershwin, Elizabeth Taylor, Eartha Kitt, and Duke Ellington. The book is illustrated with images of the exterior, the interiors (including those by Dorothy Draper, Mark Hampton and Renzo Mongiardino), the residents and the visitors. Ludwig Bemelmans's murals grace the endpapers.
About the Carlyle: Built in 1930, The Carlyle Hotel is a New York City institution. Known for its exquisite Art Deco decor, preferred hotel to celebrities, politicians, and socialites, the Carlyle will always be synonymous with luxury, taste, and style.
