A beautiful book containing an overview of different alcoholic drinks, advice on what to look for when purchasing said drinks, suggestions for what foods to pair them with, and a collection of alcoholic drink recipes and cooking recipes that incorporate or pair with wine and other alcoholic beverages, namely, a selection of entrees, soups, desserts, canapes, and snacks. Also included are full-page, black-and-white illustrated advertisements for a variety of alcoholic beverages. Marco's was a liquor retail store that had at least a couple locations in downtown Chicago. It was operated by Gerald F. Marco and Abe Marco.
The following are some of the drinks discussed: Champagne, Burgundy, Claret, Medoc, Sauternes, Port, Sherry, Vermouth, Rum, Brandy, Liqueur, Whisky, and Gin. These are the types of drinks one can make in the recipe section: Cocktails, Highballs, Juleps, Hot Drinks, Punches, Cups, Smashes, Sours, Rickies, Cobblers, and Fizzes. Also, two brief sections on "Syrups and Bitters" and "Correct Bar Procedure." On the following pages you will find 1,000 recipes for cocktails and other varieties of mixed drinks. There are 45 recipes for wines with food and 75 more recipes arranged for Canape and Cocktail Snack occasions. Fifty pages have been devoted to the use-service-storing-purchasing and growing of wines.
