Typographie by Walter Marti (Lucerne), 1957. Druck: Schill & Cie. Luzern, Switzerland. 8.5 x 11.75, pp. 134 with German text. Designed by Marti.
Typographie is the follow-up book of the same title authored by Walter Bangerter and Walter Marti in 1951. Beautifully printed and designed, this lavishly illustrated (every page) volume explores contemporary (post WWII) Swiss typography and graphic design with examples printed on a variety of paper stocks, using refreshing color combinations and experimental printing techniques. Introduction by Marti with short commentary throughout including sections featuring: logotype, letterhead, business card, labels, wine lists, advertisements, folders and bookplates. An important and valuable contribution to the subject.
Wonderful type & printing specimen book that was printed in Lucerne, Switzerland in 1957. This is a stunning showcase, not only of vivid typography, but also great printing techniques and selections of paper in the form of letterheads, envelopes, and business cards. The book is remarkable for being produced so soon after World War 2. In many ways, this book is a testament to the human spirit and the indomitable force of artistic nature and curiosity. The book was published in German and is designed in what has since become known as the “Swiss design” style.
