Cheltenham Racecourse, in the nearby village of Prestbury, is the home of National Hunt or Jumps Racing in the United Kingdom. Meetings are hosted between October and April and the main meeting is always held in March and is known as The Cheltenham Festival Meeting and includes the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Munnings' painting captures the whole essence of the paddock before a race, as it used to be in the middle of the 20th Century.
