Cecil Beaton sold his studio archive to Sotheby’s in 1977 since when it has been available for use as a picture library. The material had been indexed by Beaton’s personal assistant, Eileen Hose, and in the centenary year of his birth, Sotheby’s published this index for the first time, along with a summary of Beaton’s diaries, with quotes and illustrations.
