This spoof memoir of the draper 'Charles Cavers, Esquire, late of Bond Street, London, West' was in fact written by Unionist MP and author, Sir William Young Darling (1885-1962). Presumably he also penned the foreword by "Sacheverell Smith". It follows his earlier comic volume The Private Papers of a Bankrupt Bookseller. Darling was a director of his family's drapers firm, presumably a source for his material. Thee striking dust jacket features a modern thirties lady, with purse and cigarette, strutting down Bond Street.
