Introduction by Philippe Garner.
Elsa Schiaparelli died in 1973 but much of her personal collection was preserved as if in amber until this year. Her granddaughter Marissa Berenson consigned it to Christie’s Paris in conjunction with the re-launch of the Elsa Schiaparelli fashion house. The sale featured one hundred eighty lots and included clothing, jewelry, furniture, and art. This catalogue is lavishly illustrated, mostly in color, with artwork by Christian Bérard, Leonor Fini, and Marcel Vertès and photographs by Horst and Man Ray.
“When we talk of Schiaparelli, we evoke a magical era in a city that was the world hub of creativity, a decade of contrasts in art, architecture, and every aspect of design.”
--Philippe Garner
