In 1920, the New York Yacht Club (NYYC) was deeply involved in the 1920 America's Cup, defending the trophy against Sir Thomas Lipton's Shamrock IV. The race, postponed from 1914 due to World War I, was the 13th challenge for the Cup and the first held under the Universal Rule of measurement. The NYYC's defender, Resolute, ultimately won the series, securing the Cup for the club.
