A guide to French for the Bright Young Thing. Harry Thompson Russell's 1920s phrase book attempts to fill in the gaps of "School-French" and provide social French for 'the race-course, the Night Club, the theatre, the dinner-table, the garage and the promenade-deck.' Thus there are translations for such slangy phrases as 'To cut a long story short…' and 'He has an annoying propensity for getting tight'. With suitably jazz-age style illustrations by the illustrator Eric Fraser.
