Atkinsons Irish Poplin Necktie - Regimental Stripe - Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders (1026-22)

Founded 1794 - nickname 'The Rorys'

In 1820 Richard Atkinson & Company Limited was founded by the then Lord of Dublin, Alderman Richard Atkinson. The company began as weavers of Irish poplin, an exclusive fabric with pure silk organzine stripe warp and pure worsted wool weft. In the early days the fabric was mainly used for ladies' dresses.

The Irish poplin fabric produced by the company became a paticular favorite of Queen Victoria and the company was granted her Royal Warrant in 1837. The company was awarded the Royal Warrants of several other European crowned heads. Towards the end of the century the fabric produced by the company began to be made up in their own workshop as gentlemen's neckwear - and this tradition continues today,
