Fleming's 20pp. introduction has a humorous reprint from T. L. S. "Out of Print" and his note on how he encouraged his publisher, Jonathan Cape, to reprint this "lost book"

All Night at Mr. Stanyhurst’s is a bit like one night out of The Decameron or The Canterbury Tales. It’s the story of a group of people sitting around a fire one evening listening to another telling them a story. In this case, the group is Mr Cluny Stanyhurst, a ne’er-do-well younger son, his sixteen year-old mistress Lucy, and a French abbé exiled by the Revolution.
