Vintage 1980s Brooks Brothers Makers Six-Button Button-Down Shirt — Deadstock, Made in USA

A beautiful deadstock example of a vintage 1980s Brooks Brothers Makers button-down shirt, manufactured in the United States at Brooks Brothers’ historic Garland, North Carolina workrooms.

The shirt is made from 100% cotton domestic broadcloth in an attractive red/burgundy, navy, and green check pattern. Brooks Brothers continued to offer American-made broadcloth during the 1980s, before transitioning to imported broadcloth fabrics by the 1990s.

The shirt features Brooks Brothers’ classic soft button-down “polo” collar, six-button front placket, chest pocket, barrel cuffs, and back box pleat. The six-button configuration, characteristic of Brooks Brothers’ earlier production, produces the distinctive collar and placket proportions prized by enthusiasts of vintage American Ivy League clothing.

The original factory stamp reads “GAR,” indicating manufacture at Brooks Brothers’ Garland, North Carolina plant (see last photo).

An exceptionally well-preserved example of Brooks Brothers’ traditional American shirtmaking.
