Burnett's boxing novel of Coke Mason who starts out as a mechanic's helper before becoming a prize-fighter and finally middle-weight champion of the world. Burnett sold well in Hollywood and had 56 films made from his novels or screenplays including his most famous work, Little Caesar. Iron Man served as the basis for two black and white films, the 1931 version directed by Tod Browning and starring Lew Ayres, Jean Harlow and Robert Armstrong, and the 1951 version directed by Joseph Pevney and starring Rock Hudson.
