Originally published in Japan in 1965, "Take Ivy" is widely considered to be the Ivy style Bible.  Created by photographer Teruyoshi Hayashida and authors Shosuke Ishizu, Toshiyuki Kurosu, and Hajime Hasegawa, the book was intended to provide a stylistic blueprint for Japanese youth interested in "American Traditional" or "Ametora" style. It features thousands of candid photographs of students at all eight Ivy League institutions, capturing them in their natural habitats lounging on quads, studying in libraries, and rowing at boathouses while dressed in the uniform elements of canonical Ivy style: navy blazers, chinos, and loafers.

The book became a cult classic worldwide, with rare original copies fetching up to $2,000 at auction. In 2010, powerHouse Books released the first official English translation, which solidified its status as a foundational reference for modern American designers.

To celebrate the books 60th anniversary, J. Press has partnered with powerHouse Books to create a special, slipcased edition of the book --exclusive to J. Press-- with new forward by our President and Creative Director, Jack Carlson.
