The Original Broadway production opened March 15th, 1956 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre in New York City and ran for 2717 performances while simultaneously playing on the road.) ..... The Tony Award winning "Best Musical" starred MICHAEL EVANS as "Professor Henry Higgins" (the role originated by REX HARRISON) and CAROLINE DIXON as "Eliza Doolittle" (the role originated by JULIE ANDREWS) and featured CHARLES VICTOR, HUGH DEMPSTER, MARGARET BANNERMAN, KATHERINE HYNES, REID SHELTON, JOHN CUNNINGHAM (three years before he would make his Broadway debut), ERIC BROTHERSON, CHARLES PENMAN, MARIE PAXTON and VELMA ROYTON .....
