This edition is bound with Ralph Barton's celebrated map of Paris with the kind permission of the artist. With 32 illustrations. Printed on the rear panel of the decorated slipcase; "Peter Whittle, Carl Van Vechten's first novel, was published in April, 1922, and leaped into immediate favor in both America and England. Since then it has gone into twelve editions and has been hailed as sort of modern classic. Carl Van Doren has written concerning it: "Peter Whiffle is piquant, arresting, brightly mad. Whether in Paris or New York he glitters in his setting, and that setting is even more of a triumph than the character of Peter. Mr. Van Vechten deals with it now racily, now poetically. He is full of allusions, of pungency's, of learning in his times. He knows how to laugh, he scorns solemnity, he has filled his book with wit and erudition" This new edition is revised and reset and contains thirty-two illustrations from photographs and drawings which recapture the atmosphere of the early twentieth century. The binding is after Ralph Barton's famous map of Paris."
