This is the Revised Edition of Cecil Beaton’s New York, first published in 1938. Both editions have different but equally marvelous dust jacket illustrations by Beaton of the Manhattan skyline. The book is a journalistic evaluation of New York through text, b & w photographs, and also pen & ink line drawings. Beaton frequently relates New York to his home city, London, contrasting the vertiginous construction of Manhattan with the quaint streets and squares of London. This updated edition takes in account how World War II changed the city and its relationship to the Old World.

"Few Americans realize the romance and glamour which they possess in the eyes of their English visitors."
