I was going to be deep-frozen at a girls' school, so that my parents wouldn't have any trouble with me, Penny thought. Then I will go and marry some snob foot for their sake. But they don't care what I mean.

Penny was one of the many girls in Villa Joie who had been sent to boarding school in Switzerland, because their parents would not have any problems with them precisely during those years, when they were most in need of loving care. But Penny knew how to adjust, and with her two roommates, she experienced all that was there to do: breaking school rules, taking with her the temptations and exciting adventures she dumped into, and having nightly dates with young men.

Eva Defago herself lives in Switzerland and has attended boarding school there. She had written a number of short stories and short stories before she published this novel.
