"The Leopard" (Italian: "Il Gattopardo") is a novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, published posthumously in 1958. It is a historical novel set in Sicily during the Risorgimento, the movement for Italian unification in the 1860s. The story follows the aristocratic Salina family as they navigate the social and political upheaval of the era, particularly the decline of the old aristocracy and the rise of a new bourgeoisie.
